Hospital Changes Name to Methodist Richardson Medical Center

(June 1, 2009) – The Richardson Hospital Authority (RHA) Board, the governing body of Richardson Regional Medical Center, has signed a 20-year operating lease agreement with Methodist Health System effective June 1, 2009. Methodist will operate the Richardson hospital and lease its facilities and equipment. RHA will retain ownership of the hospital while it is operated in the Methodist system under its new name, Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

“We are proud to welcome Methodist Richardson Medical Center to the Methodist Health System family,” said Methodist Health System President and CEO Dr. Stephen L. Mansfield. “I believe that our two organizations can accomplish substantial synergy by working together and this relationship clearly strengthens the Methodist mission and vision for the future.”

To mark the occasion, Methodist Richardson held an employee celebration and unveiled new signage at the Methodist Richardson Medical Center campus on Campbell Road.

“The hospital has been serving Richardson and the surrounding area for more than 40 years. We are excited to begin this new chapter in our history and continue providing high quality health care,” said RHA Board Chair Bernard DiFiore.

The new Methodist Richardson, which began as a community-owned hospital in 1966, has two medical campuses – the Campbell and Bush/Renner campuses. The Methodist partnership is expected to accelerate the expansion at Bush/Renner, which is currently home to a medical office building as well as an outpatient hospital and cancer center that opened in October 2008.

“We have been committed to finding a partner who shares our vision for future growth and values our dedicated employees and physicians and non-profit mission,” said Ron Boring, president of Methodist Richardson. “Our partnership with Methodist also will strengthen our organization by expanding clinical programs and services, supporting medical staff development and providing operational efficiencies.”
